Program Overview
All applicants for our preschool classrooms must be at least 3 years old by August 31st to begin school in September. If space is available children are invited to apply to the program for a start in the month in which they turn three years of age. Classrooms at NECP are designed to be mixed age groups however, depending on enrollment, some classrooms may be only Kindergarten bound students and some may be younger three year old students. Students age eligible to attend Kindergarten (five years old on or before August 31st) are not eligible to attend NECP
School Year:
The preschool generally follows the Newton Public Schools Calendar with a few exceptions. Please view our posted school calendar. The last day of school in June will be determined by the School Committee, usually in April. It will be posted for families once we have been notified of the date. The preschool often ends one day earlier than other Newton Public Schools.
Staff:
Each class is staffed with a Masters-level teacher and two to four teaching assistants. In addition, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and behavior therapists are involved in our classrooms. Our professional staff also includes board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs), vision and mobility specialists, a school psychologist, a social worker, a school nurse, and a physical education teacher.
